Im looking to start a business out of the home. Need ideas on a service I can offer over the Internet?

Im trying to think of some good services I could offer to people over the internet that could be related to anything. The main thing is I want to be able to do it from the home and online. Almost like a partime career adventure while I still have my full time job for the benefits.
I appreciate the responses. Are these legit? Have any of you gone through these sites before?

Ive been answering that question for as long as Internet has been Internet.

If someone tells you an idea and you build around it, it will fail. And most suggested sites are only good if you get into their program early otherwise you joining is only giving the person who recommends you some money cause its too late for you to do what they did.

You are going at this in reverse. What you will want to do is make a website that draws people on a certain subject. Build it, host it online, get it mentioned in forums and blogs, get it listed in search engines. To make money you can use commission and affiliate programs to link to books, videos, equipment, funny tshirts, bumperstickers, mugs on the subject. You can try those and write reviews rating them. You can start a discussion forum on the subject. Link to news articles. All of this can be done by paying for someone to do it, or do it yourself for free.

But the FIRST thing you need to do is pick the subject, then build a buisness around it. Not the other way around. It doesnt matter if its growing tomatoes or building a backyard catapult or training cats to use the toilet. It doesnt matter if its something you know alot about or something you wish you knew alot about. What is it that makes your friends groan whenever the subject comes up because you tend to get carried away talking about it?

Write down 10 things you know or want to know about.
Do some searches on the net. If you dont find one of them then you found a niche. JUMP ON IT. If you do find it then check out who comes out on top. Is it sites that offer commissions for sending people to them such as CafePress or Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Do you get the impression that you could sales-pitch the subject better than they can? Well they think that also. They know that a golf site will pitch golf books better than them so they offer commissions on links.

Pick a subject. ANY off the wall subject that you think NO ONE else has any interest in. This is Internet. Everything has more followers than you think. If you cant think of a way to build a site around it then come back and ask again with that subject.

Has anyone ever done one of those work from home online business things?

Does it work? Do you realistically have the potential to make the money they say? What are you doing exactly? Are some of them different then others?

Green Monkey….
I have tried a few things and it is definitely a different world working at home for yourself versus at a job working under someone else.
The survey thing didn’t pay (I am still owed money from doing them) and even when they do it is very little money for the effort. This was my experience and there very well may be some companies that are better than others. It will just take some homework.
Like the other responder said, avoid things that require you to pay out hundreds or thousands of dollars to get started. This is pretty much a no-brainer for most of us because we simply don’t have that kind of money laying around. However, there is an understanding that to start your own business there will be a start up fee involved or some other form of payment (ie so many qualifying parties or customers).
What I usually recommend is that you look around and find what fits with your personality. Find something that you believe in and then run with it! Everyone should have their own home based business!

Why do 97% of home based businesses fail within their first 3-6 months?

I read a statistic that 97% of home based internet business fail within the first few months? Why? Is it lack of education, coaching, experience, marketing capital? Any insights?

I started my websites about 5 years ago and so did 3 of my other friends. We were in the same boat – our company had gone bust and we needed to find other income sources. Anyway, out of the four of us, I am the only one making money online today. I don’t think 97% can be considered an exact figure, but I am quite sure that it is well above 90%. Here’s why I think home based internet businesses fail :

- I believe the primary reason is people have the misconception that an Online Business is EASY, that you can just pay for a website and let it run TOTALLY on autopilot. That is farthest from the truth.

I work very hard to make money online – writing content, web design, marketing and search engine optimization. With each pre-launch of my website, I put in long hours of work. After I launch a website, it doesn’t require DAILY FIXED attention, but it DOES require attention nevertheless. Newbies don’t understand that rankings on search engines and traffic are NOT automatic. Sure, you can pay an SEO company a couple hundred bucks to pump up your site to page #1 but your ranking may not last. You are competing against millions of other websites. You HAVE to build quality content and inbound links to your sites consistently. In addition to that, you need to interact with visitors to your site and ensure that development of your site is on going.

- Many people simply fall prey to savvy online marketers who write such convincing copy. They promise riches overnight. They paint images of you sitting sipping a leisurely cup of coffee by the beach while your website runs 24/7 making you thousands of bucks everyday. They use fake (or souped up) testimonials from non existent folks praising their product. People don’t realize that many of the websites that proclaim instant online riches are cloned from the original (very smart and savvy) marketer. Imagine if you had one thousand underlings trying to catch fish for you? Very often, that’s what people are to online marketers. ALL of them say their product or system IS the best.

- So what happens to the folks who believe these savvy marketers and plonk out good money? They’re left with sub-standard products or cloned websites and NO IDEA what to do next. Every step is a steep learning curve. Every day they find out something new that they simply don’t understand about web development, marketing and SEO. This causes discouragement, dissapointment and ultimately lack of drive. Everyday, the wake up and think of how much work it is going to take to drive their "money machine" and they just cannot muster the energy and passion to keep going. Procrastination then sets in. Eventually when one year goes by and the they get notice to renew their domain, they don’t.

A home based internet business conjures up images of working from home, enjoying a leisurely stress free life and NO hard work. Yes, I do get to work from home and definitely working to my own deadlines is a lot less stressful than having a boss hounding me daily, but it is NOT without hard work.

What’s the truth behind these "work at home" internet ads? Can someone tell me w/c are real & w/c are scams?

The ads come complete with testimonials from allegedly satisfied people who registered and are now working at home and earning huge cash. In some ads you are required to make an investment like buy a CD or a kit. This makes me more suspicious.

Yes, you can work from home but it’s not an easy path. I myself working on it for 2 years plus. Can see how it evolve. If you are not really into putting all your efforts into it. I think it’s not suitable for you.

Does anyone here work from home?

I am unemployed at the moment and receiving employment insurance benefits. I have been looking for a job in my field of work (office, receptionist) in the area that I live but I can’t seem to find any work. I am afraid that my EI Benefits will run out soon, and I will not have found a job. I am looking at working from home but I want to get into a legitimate at home career – NOT something that scams people, NOT something that I can’t make money at, and NOT something that I have to spend money to get into – ‘A Legitimate’ AT HOME CAREER. I was curious if anyone out there is doing this and if they could give me some pointers or help me get started. I would appreciate the feedback.

We have tried many things and have found a company
that has been around for 21 Years and pays you to
advertise for them. My wife and I just started and are
doing well. It is not an MLM company and no selling,
no deliveries or stocking product. My wifes aunt has
been working with this company for a little over 3
years and home schools 3 kids and makes $9,000 a
month. It is a 500 inc company and the CEO is on the
U.S. Chamber of commerce board. I can arrange a
private web cast with my wifes aunt for you and you
can decide by yourself and WE WILL help you be
successfull. It is an honest Win Win.

Advice from Work at Home Medical Transcriptionists?

Right now I am a stay-at-home Mom and I would like to earn some extra income and feel like I am contributing fiancially to the household and gain a little bit of independence. I am a very fast typer so many people have told me that becoming a Medical Transcriptionist would be a good career choice for me. Have any of you taken online classes to become a Medical Transcriptionist? If so, where? I was also wondering if it was easy to find a job to work at home as a Medical Transcriptionist. Could you also please describe for me what you have to do. Thanks so much!

There are many jobs that will hire you on and give you the option to work from home after a trial period at the office. This way you still get all the benefits such as insurance. I know a few people that do medical transcription, one for a hospital and one for an outside company, both have the option to work from home. Medical transcription does not only invovle dictation it can also have to do with insurance claims. You may have a program for it at your local community college and it is only 16 credits which you can finish in 2 semesters. It would cost roughly $1500, but if you are a single mom or a low income family you will more than likely qualify for grants and financial aid. Good Luck!
